VCD (video CD) of a live 'lam sing' (fast molam) show in Northeast Thailand. Molam is the folkmusicculture of the ethnic Lao, who mainly live in Northeast Thailand, a region also known as Isan. The music on this VCD (playable as CD in a normal CD player, but when connected to a screen also has visuals, albeit of mediocre quality) is in the relative modern lam sing style, which means uptempo, loud, largely amplified/electronic and performed with mainly Western instruments (and a few Lao instruments like the phin and kaen). Visually these large, staged shows are comparable to Las Vegas style dance choreographies, sometimes interwoven with comic/slapstick intermezzo's by a so-called 'mor soi' (joker).
