Around 1986, French composer and multi-instrumentalist Pierre Bastien started creating and building his own orchestra called Mecanium: an ensemble of musical automatons constructed from meccano parts and activated by electro-motors, that ‘play’ on acoustic instruments from all over the world.

The result is an interesting collection minimal music pieces as can be heard above here.
