Rare original Thai 7" with beautiful traditional molam from Isan, the Northeast region of Thailand.
This is the real thing: live recordings made of highly skilled molam singers, accompanied on the trance-invoking Lao mouthorgan, the kaen.
The mouthorgan on both sides is played by morkaen Bunmee Petchheung (บุญม เพชรหง).
The song on Side A is poetically titled "Young melon gives birth to a child" (เปล่งแก้ว เสียงน้าทิพย์) and is sung by molam Plengkaew Siangnamthip (เปล่งแก้ว เสียงน้าทิพย์).
Side B is titled "The Chakri Dynasty drove the young melons out of the city" (มหาวงศ์จักกรีขับแตงอ่อนออกจากเมือง) and is sung by the same female singer as on Side A, Plengkaew Siangnamthip, and a male singer, mysteriously mentioned on the label as 'Manop' (มานพ).
The condition of this 7" on 45 RPM from the '60's on Orient Records is good, the vinyl plays without skipping but has crackles throughout. Listen to the audio examples for an impression of the actual copy for sale.
