Rare original Thai EP on 7" vinyl with four fun & funky lukthung songs from Northeast Thailand, an area also known as Isan.

The singer of all four tracks is Rungnakorn Pornamnat (รุ่งนคร พรอำนาจ).

The first track on side A is the hitsong 'Young Boy and Girl from Khon Kaen' (หนุ่มคอนสาน-สาวขอนแก่น). Khon Kaen is a province & city in Northeast Thailand, and one of the musical centres of Isan. It's a beautiful song and example of the 'lukthung' style, which translates as 'children from the countryside'. It is a musical genre still very popular in Thailand, and closely related to the genre of 'molam', which is like Isan lukthung usually sung in the Lao language. Most ethnically Lao people live in Northeast Thailand, which used to be part of several Lao kingdoms before the royal family of Siam eventually annexed this area to form the Kingdom of Thailand - a name that didn't occur until 1939.

On the B-side we find the superfunky synth-laden Isan lukthung song 'The Northeast Is Dry'. Rungnakorn sings here about the dryness of the land in Isan, which is especially true for the area around Khon Kaen, and Mahasarakham. It's one of the reasons life is so difficult in the Northeast, why people are so poor, but also why they celebrating, partying and dancing to good music so much.
'Beautiful Woman' is another funky disco-style lukthung dancetrack, with great horns, organ and Thai percussion.
