Beautiful original Thai 7" vinyl record from the early '70's by two legendary Isan lukthung singers.

On Side A we find the song 'Khan Maak Luuk Khamphra' (ยันหมากลูกกำพร้า) by Saksiam Petchompoo (ศักดิ์สยาม เพชรชมภู).
He was born in 1952 as Boonchuay Senalad (บุญชื่น เสนาลาด), and later adopted the stage name Saksiam Petchompoo.
He is a famous folksinger from Maha Sarakham Province in Northeastern Thailand (Isan). He is foremost known for his song "Thung Kula Rong Hai", which was awarded by Princess Sirindhorn in 1991.
He started his career as a member of the Dao Isan dance troupe. He really enjoyed singing lukthung songs, especially songs by Waiphot Phetsuphan.
Later he also started acting, and played in popular Isan movies like 'Motherland' (แผ่นดินแม่) in 1975, and 'Phubao Thaibaan 2' (ผู้บ่าวไทบ้าน 2) in 2016.
Saksiam Petchompoo 's dicography encompasses many (hit) singles, and a huge collection of songs and albums he made incollaboration with other artists as well.

Khan Maak is the name of an adorned offering tray that is given to bride-to-be by the family of the groom in Thailand. After this a ceremonial parade is held in the village, usually accompanied by traditional music like Klong Yao (Thai drumband) or molam (Isan folkmusic). 'Luuk khampra' means 'orphan' in Thai, so this song is about a man who lost hos parents and is about to marry.
This song is in the lukthung style, which is a still very popular folkmusic genre across Thailand, and translates as 'children from the countryside'. The style originates in Northeast Thailand among the ethnic Lao people there. Due to its popularity in the rest of the country there also developed a Central-Thai variety of the genre.
The melody & lyrics of this song were composed by Tier Seritsiri Machen & Net Yaeksiangpra.

The B-side offers another Isan gem. Singer Kom Kireebun (คม คีรีบูน) sings about the end of Buddhist Lent (Ok Phansa) in the Isan town of Chiang Khan.
Kom Kireebun, who was also known under the alias Santhi Samart (สนธิ สมมาตร), was born as Paitoon Thumwong (ไพฑูรย์ ทุ่มวงศ์) in 1952, just like Saksiam Petchompoo. He was born in province Ubon Ratchatani, in the border area with Laos & Cambodia.
In 1969, while studying in the second year of secondary school, he dropped out of school and traveled to Bangkok without knowing anyone, with the deep hope of becoming a singer. He started working in a factory that made chairs. When he repaired chairs of the Metro Cinema complex he got in touch with the manager, and asked him if he could be hired as a singer in the cinema live band. He participated in many singing contests at temple fairs, and eventually won a contest at Wat Uthai Thararam. This landed him the job of singer in the '181 Combo Band', where he performed with 1-2 times per month for 20 band per show. In the same year he was finally hired as singer in the band at the Metro Cinema. These jobs led to his first song recordings, of which this is one of his most well known. He recorded relatively few songs compared to other famous artists from his time, only about 60 works.
Some of his famous songs were used as the soundtrack for the 1978 Thai movie 'Mon Rak Mae Nam Mun'. He also acted himself in films such as 'Sawan Ban Na' and 'Dok Khun Siang Khaen'.
He has a very recognizable style of singing in an often high register, and likes to sing sweet slow songs. The song on this 45 RPM single is one of his most loved ones, next to 'Luk Thung Khon Yak' and 'Duan Bor Kor Sor'. This song is often used in festival ceremonies of Chiang Khan district.
He still peforms up until this day.
Lyrics and melody of this song were composed by Thong Thanathip & Chobtri Kwanchit Sriprachan.
