-
2. Namphueng Phetisaan - Playboy
Rare original Thai pressing of Thepphabut Sathirodchompoo produced classic lukthung song 'Big body Small Heart (ตัวใหญ่ใจเล็ก) by legendary singer Waipod Phetsuphan (ไวพจน์ เพชรสุพรรณ) on Side A. The lyrics and song was composed by Jiw Phichit.
Waipod Phetsuphan, whose real name was Phan Sakulnee (พาน สกุลนี) was born on 7 March 1942 in Suphanburi province in central Thailand. He specialized in the Thai popular folkmusic styles lukthung and phleng lae (เพลงแหล่) and was awarded National Artist of Thailand in 1997.
He is associated with "Queen of Lukthung" Pumpuang Duangjan, for whom he has written songs like 'Keaw Roe Phee' (แก้วรอพี่) and 'Countryside Singer' (นักร้องบ้านนอก/Nak Rong Baan Nork).
Waipod was of Laotian descent and started singing in 1962. Popular songs of him include 'Taeng Thao Tai' (แตงเถาตาย), 'Fang Khao Thit Kaeo' (ฟังข่าวทิดแก้ว), and 'Baeng Sombat' (แบ่งสมบัติ).
He died in Bangkok on 12 January 2022, at the age of 79.
On the B-side we find the lukthung song 'Playboy' by singer Namphueng ('Honey') Phetisaan, also recorded by legendary producer Thepphabut Sathirodchompoo, and composed and performed together with the Samanmit Kerdkamphaeng Band.
In 2012 a compilation was released on vinyl with molam productions of Thepphabut, which were recorded between 1972-1975.
This 7" was probably made just before this period, but shows the musicality and unique style and vision of both Waipod & Thepphabut. It was pressed by the 'Sound of Siam Records' label.
Side A has crackles but plays fine and is graded as VG-. Side B crackles more, and is graded as G+ but also still plays fine without skips.
