Han Litz & The Lucid Voyages are Olivier Schreuder (live electronics), Han Litz (flutes) & Angkanang Pimwankum (percussion, live visuals). Together they make new improvised and composed electroacoustic music, sometimes with interactive live visuals. Point of departure is nature in the shape of fieldrecordings Olivier Schreuder made in a.o. The Netherlands and Southeast Asia.
Around these recordings they weave intricate soundscapes with several types of flute and electronics, which consist of custommade effects and a modular synthesizer system.
Han Litz & Olivier Schreuder found each other again, after their initial collaboration in a John Coltrane tribute with the Kindred Spirits Ensemble, in their wish to create spiritual animistic music inspired by nature. The modulair synthesizer of Olivier Schreuder is designed around physical modelling, a type of synthesis that allows electronic sound generation based on the physical qualities of acoustic instruments. Intertwined with his fieldrecordings of natural environments which he recorded in a.o. Thailand, Vietnam and Burma (Myanmar) this turns out to form a harmonious mix with the acoustic flute sounds of jazzvirtuoso Han Litz.
The musical result is a timeless collection modal compositions without borders, in which the listener is invited to embark on an intergalactic journey, from our own planet to the unknown landscapes of new imaginary celestial objects.
Olivier Schreuder and Angkanang Pimwankum together started Animist Records. They are also part of the Thai-Dutch collective Apichat Pakwan, with whom they play a unique mix of Thai, Lao & electronic music. With this live band & DJ-VJ act they tour since 2016 in Europe and Asia, with shows including the Fusion Festival in Berlin, Amsterdam Roots, WOMEX in Porto, Houtfestival in Haarlem, Na Fir Bolg in Belgium, World Experience Festival in Romenia, Isan Creative Festival en the Jai Thep Festival in Thailand.
Olivier Schreuder graduated with a Master with Honors in Musictechnology. He specialized in (live) electronics and Asian music. Recently he composed and produced an album under the alias of Hiss Sound together with Dutch musicians who are specialized in North-Indian classical music. Furthermore he released an album with fieldrecordings he made of kantrum, animistic music of the ethnic Khmer people in Thailand.
Angkanang Pimwankum studied Thai classical music, and developed herself in performance of both percussion as live visuals.
Han Litz performs almost non-stop on international stages since his graduation at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
He is as musician and composer part of the British-Dutch band Flowriders (Seravince), the first group that performed ‘broken beats’ live on stage. Furthermore he performed with the who-is-who of soulful house DJ’s like Erick E, Michel de Hey, Kid Sublime, Roog, DJ Maestro, Jazzanova, Louie Vega (Masters At Work), Patrick Forge (Da Lata) en DJ Deep.
Together with KC The Funkaholic and Wiboud Burkens he founded the spiritual jazz project Kindred Spirits Ensemble. For many years he was one of the driving forces behind Lex Empress & The Royals. Together with Cassie 6 he formed a production team, a.o. remixing Osunlade. Besides composer, producer and arranger he is also musical leader of the Han Litz Group, which made its lauded debut with the album Epiphany (2012).
His recent album Unity In Diversity (2023) consists of modern spiritual jazz, tribal jazz, Brazilian samba and sonically encompasses both acoustic and electronic sounds.
